AREAS OF STUDY

INSTRUMENT & BAND SKILLS

Rock & Pop music is about performing. Our students take part in termly showcase performances. To maximise individual progress students are given tasks to prepare for their next session. This not only improves their individual learning and acquisition of skills, but also develops self-discipline and organisation.

READING & UNDERSTANDING MUSIC NOTATION

We believe in challenging young minds and developing self-sufficiency. Our students learn to use standard Rock & Pop notation so that they are able to play from sight as well as by ear.

IMPROVISING

All musicians harbour the desire for self-expression. Improvising is the ultimate outlet for this, but it can be daunting. Youngsters acquire these skills in different ways and over differing lengths of time. We give our students the confidence, through support and encouragement, to explore this skill in a safe creative atmosphere and at their own pace.

SONGWRITING

As well as a desire for instrumental and vocal self-expression most young musicians want to be songwriters. Classes combine studies in the structure and notation of music with composition projects which culminate in song-writing showcases.
